“A must-read for anyone who thinks “build a wall” is the answer to anything.” —Esquire"Fresh, urgent...A devastating narrative of the very real human effects of depersonalized policy." —Kirkus Reviews (starred)“Cantú’s rich prose and deep empathy make this an indispensable look at one of America’s most divisive issues.”  —Publisher's Weekly (starred)“There is a line dividing what we know and do not know.  Some see the world from one shore and some from the other.  Cantú brings the two together to a spiritual whole.  My gratitude for this work of the soul.”  —Sandra Cisneros “A beautiful, fiercely honest, and nevertheless deeply empathetic look at those who police the border and the migrants who risk – and lose -- their lives crossing it. In a time of often ill-informed or downright deceitful political rhetoric, this book is an invaluable corrective.” —Phil Klay, author of Redeployment"Francisco Cantu’s story is a lyrical journey that helps bridge the jagged line that divides us from them. His empathy reminds us of our humanity -- our immigrant history -- at a critical time.” —Alfredo Corchado, journalist, author of Midnight in Mexico"Cantú’s story, and intelligent and humane perspective, should mortify anyone who ever thought building a wall might improve our lot. He advocates for clarity and compassion in place of xenophobia and uninformed rhetoric. His words are emotionally true and his literary sensibility uplifting.” –Barry Lopez, author of Arctic Dreams and Of Wolves and Men   "This book tells the hard poetry of the desert heart. If you think you know about immigration and the border, you will see there is much to learn. And you will be moved by its unexpected music." –Luis Alberto Urrea, author of The Devil’s Highway Francisco Cantú was an agent for the United States Border Patrol from 2008 to 2012, working in the deserts of Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. A former Fulbright fellow, he is the recipient of a Pushcart Prize, a 2017 Whiting Award, and a 2018 Art for Justice fellowship. His writing and translations have been featured in The New York Times, Best American Essays, Harper's, and Guernica, as well as on This American Life. He lives in Tucson and coordinates the Southwest Field Studies in Writing Program at the University of Arizona.

The instant New York Times bestseller, "A must-read for anyone who thinks 'build a wall' is the answer to anything." --Esquire

For Francisco Cantú, the border is in the blood: his mother, a park ranger and daughter of a Mexican immigrant, raised him in the scrublands of the Southwest. Driven to understand the hard realities of the landscape he loves, Cantú joins the Border Patrol. He and his partners learn to track other humans under blistering sun and through frigid nights. They haul in the dead and deliver to detention those they find alive. Plagued by a growing awareness of his complicity in a dehumanizing enterprise, he abandons the Patrol for civilian life. But when an immigrant friend travels to Mexico to visit his dying mother and does not return, Cantú discovers that the border has migrated with him, and now he must know the full extent of the violence it wreaks, on both sides of the line.

The Border Frontline Francisco Cantu has a very interesting story to tell. Descended from Mexican immigrants, his family and the traditions associated with extended kinship are a central prism through which his story unfolds. A story that encompasses the two sides of the border, the people who cross the border searching for the american dream, and the people whose job it is to apply the law in order to secure that border. As a Border Patrol agent he is in the front line of this saga, witnessing firsthand the desperation and determination of the migrants who risk everything for a better way of life. The exploitation that they suffer at the hands of the smugglers who view them as just an income stream, and the inhumanity of the judicial system that only recognizes them as illegal aliens, committing a federal offense. However, once they cross, the migrants are the epitome of the hard working immigrants making good in their adopted country, having to suffer the perennial stigma of being undocumented, with all the trials and tribulations that come with that condition.Cantu does not offer any policy solutions, rather he just tells the stories of the people that are players in this drama. This is the strength of the book.Easy read, empathetic tale of people caught up in an impersonal system. An honest report by someone with his boots on the ground I picked up this book because the subject is topical and my local news suggested it contained some politically controversial material. The only thing that makes this book controversial is the presently vocal anti-immigrant hysteria of the American political Right. If the book had come out two years ago, no one would be declaring it controversial. An autobiographical story told in first person and covering a roughly 10 year period from the author's college graduation with a political science degree through and beyond his four year stint in the U.S. border patrol serving the south western United States. The author, being of Mexican heritage and raised in the South West, was drawn to the international border between the U.S. and Mexico, joining the border patrol to, as he put it, bring the theory he studied down to earth. There are a few flash backs to his earlier life, and some history of the border region, the 1860s war with Mexico that added the South West territories, Texas, and the southern half of California to the U.S. map, and also the impact of the Mexican Revolution of 1911. Much of the emotional conflict is revealed through dreams he had while serving on the border and later as his life never let him forget what he experienced. This is the story of a compassionate man in an in-compassionate job. He relates incidences of drug seizures, but notes that most of what he had to do was capture and return to Mexico people who wanted nothing more than to do some honest work and in many cases reunite with wives and in particular children born in the U.S. and so citizens. Many of these people die trying. Unlike a generation back, when crossing the border was relatively easy whether for work or criminal activity, it is now much more difficult and only the criminals have the resources to assure themselves of making the trip alive. The rest take their chances and thousands do not make it. The cruelty of criminal groups escorting migrants is on full display. People who cannot keep up in the many miles long trek across stony and water-less desert are simply left behind to die. The border patrol itself is complicit in some of these deaths destroying water and food, meant to sustain these people, where ever they find it.After four years the author cannot take more and quits the border patrol. The remainder of the book relates a friendship he develops with an undocumented Mexican immigrant who becomes trapped in the system, torn from his wife and children simply because he returns to Mexico to be with his dying mother and bury her. From there, he cannot get back and every attempt to do so traps him deeper and deeper in a system that cares nothing for compassionate people. This book is not political. Cantu avoids even mentioning much of politics, but merely reports what he experiences of an indifferent system and those trapped by it. He is most surely not opposed to interdicting drugs and deporting real criminals, but the vast majority of the migrant people involved are neither drug runners or criminals, but only criminalized by their desire to work and share a life with their spouses and children. If you are a compassionate person the book might bring you to tears. It is an honest report of the impact of an impersonal system on the lives of thousands of individuals who want nothing more than a life for themselves and their families. The political is mostly notable for its absence as the author tries, likely in vain for these times, to personalize these stories. There is nothing more controversial about it than that.

This book is fair for a student but very poor book for an experienced clinician This book is fair for a student but very poor book for an experienced clinician. Very little information compared to other books of physical dysfunction.Fantastic Resource! This book is incredibly informative. The information is helpful, as well as up to date. There are several invaluable references listed within (resources that wI'll be helpful to clients). This is an amazing textbook, and one that I'll likely keep and reference during my career. My go to OT guide/reference Essential for any OT student. I use mine all the time as a reference, for assessments, and for developing treatment plans for a variety of conditions. This book has helped me to succeed in several different classes and I plan to lug it with me for fieldwork.

Title: Quick and Healthy Keto Zone Cookbook Pdf The Holistic Lifestyle for Losing Weight, Increasing Energy, and Feeling Great
Author: Don Colbert
Published Date: 2019-01-08

Dr. Don Colbert has been board-certified in Family Practice, Anti-aging and Integrative medicine for over 25 years. He is an Amazon and New York Times best-selling author of books such as The Seven Pillars of Health, What Would Jesus Eat, What You Don’t Know May be Killing You, and many more with over 10 million books sold. He is the Medical Director of the Divine Health Wellness Center where he has treated over 50,000 patients. He is also an internationally known expert and prolific speaker on Integrative Medicine. He and his wife, Mary, reside in Orlando, Florida, and Dallas, Texas.

Finding quick and healthy recipes that fit your busy lifestyle is challenging. Dr. Colbert tackled this challenge and created his Quick and Healthy Keto Zone Cookbook that follows his proven Keto Zone diet. Not only can you quickly cook wonderful meals, but the meals you eat will help you lose weight, increase your energy, and help you feel great! Dr. Colbert shares his best tips for getting into the Keto Zone, provides a shopping list, and a simple meal plan to follow to help you stay in the Keto Zone no matter your schedule. The best bonus is you'll enjoy what you're eating too!

Simple and easy Helpful cookbook for those interested in keto or low carb recipes. Most recipes are relatively simple and use either the oven or stovetop. Recipes vary from breakfast to dips and desserts.I read an incomplete advance digital copy without photos - I can only imagine the finished product will be a great book.Health and Tasty Recipes I received a copy of this book via NetGalley and Worthy Publishing for an honest review.I had to look up information about the Keto Diet and was amazed to find that low and behold I had been following a very similar diet for years. As I read Dr Don Colberts introduction to this book I was pleased to see that it was not pages and pages long as with some specific diet cookbooks I have read. I was very interested to see that although there are no illustrations that spaces where illustrations are to be placed are clearly marked. The tasty delicious recipes were what interested me and one recipe in particular This was the Brussels Sprouts Egg Pie. I made it for breakfast and the family who at least 70% do not like Brussels Sprouts just loved this pie. I found the Pumpkin Pancakes were also very tasty. I will be trying the Chocolate Butter Kisses recipe next as I have a Morning tea with friends very soon. I highly recommend this book as a very good cookbook for all who love a healthy recipe for a healthy body.Contains Some Good, Nutritionally Based Recipes Worthy Publishing and NetGalley provided me with an electronic copy of Quick and Healthy Keto Zone Cookbook. I was under no obligation to review this book and my opinion is freely given. The Keto diet, to those - including myself - who have heard of it but have no prior knowledge, is a diet comprised of low-carb, increased healthy fats, and moderate levels of protein. The balance of these three dietary building blocks creates the ideal environment for a healthy body, according to the philosophy by the author, Dr. Don Colbert. The important thing to stress is that this is a diet, which the author says can provide followers with 1-2 pound weight loss per week when combined with exercise. This is not a diet to start lightly, or without prior doctor approval. It may work well, for those with Type 2 diabetes, in particular, but only a qualified doctor who knows your personal medical history will be able to determine if this diet is for you.My personal opinion is that there are a lot of good, nutritional recipes in this cookbook. I could see myself making several of them, especially recipes in the Basics section like Bone Broth (p. 20) and Homemade Tangy Barbecue Sauce (p. 26). The Breakfast section has nutritional options such as Almond Flax Seed Waffles (p. 52), along with Frozen Berry Smoothies (p. 57). Lunch recipes include different dishes such as Avocado Soup (p. 64), with nutritional bone broth providing a good base for the soup, and Shrimp Skewer with Warm Mushroom Salad (p. 76), complete with mushrooms, arugula, and walnuts to accompany the shrimp. There are Dinner dishes that are delicious and provide great nutrition, including Lemon-Basil Chicken (p. 103), Cheesesteak Stuffed Peppers (p. 115), and Slow Cooked Pulled Pork (p. 118). Side Dishes like Bacon & Brussels Sprouts Carbonara (p. 123) and Creamed Spinach (p. 128) will complement main dish meats very nicely. The Desserts section may look like full sugar offerings, but the author has used sugar substitutes such as liquid stevia to add the sweetness. Recipes such as Sweet Nut Clusters (p. 133) and Coconut Milk Custard (p. 137) will have eaters not missing the traditional sugar. With many snack recipes that include chips, spreads, and crackers, there are many non-sweet treats that can provide nutritional value. Overall, I would not recommend Quick and Healthy Keto Zone Cookbook as a diet book, but there are some bona-fide good recipes that would be a good addition to any table.

Oahu Revealed Free Pdf

ISBN: 0996131868
Title: Oahu Revealed Pdf The Ultimate Guide to Honolulu, Waikiki & Beyond
Author: Andrew Doughty
Published Date: 2018-06-22
Page: 316

"Wizard continues to produce information, maps and photographs that are all first-rate, and--even better!"--Honolulu Star-Advertiser Oahu Revealed, 5th edition|Oahu Revealed 6th edition

The finest guidebook ever written for O'ahu. Now you can plan your best vacation--ever. This all new expanded sixth edition is a candid, humorous guide to everything there is to see and do on the island. Written by the author of the best-selling guides, Maui Revealed, Hawaii The Big Island Revealed and The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook. Explore with him as he reveals breathtaking trails, secluded beaches, pristine reefs, delicious places to dine, relaxing places to stay, exciting waterfalls, colorful valleys and so much more. Every restaurant, activity provider, business and resort is reviewed personally and anonymously. This book and a rental car are all you need to discover what makes O'ahu so exciting.

**OAHU LEAKED*** This book covers the inception of the islands to the most recent events as it was was published in 2017. Its as though you uncovered the OAHU bible; like having a tour guide, travel agent, event planner and financial planner all in your back pocket. The most interesting fact is even though the "haiku stairs" has the most magnificent views of the Island, It is illegal. However, without breaking the law or running past security guards, you can actually legally hike to the top another route.. but you'll have to open page 212, once your book arrives in a day or two...The worst fact is that like all volcanic islands, eventually they will die and sink.. Meaning one day Hawaii will not exist. :(. But hey on the upside a new island is forming 20 miles off the coast and in 70,000 years or so will be blooming with tourism.....Buy the app instead of book The book is a quality paperback for 14.25. The reason for only 3 stars is the price and the encouragement and evident need to purchase the smartphone app for another $17.99. It is possible that I can sell the book after vacation but the smartphone app will not be useful. At the very least, offer the app for free or substantial discount for purchase of the book and app. The app offers the same information as the book plus more real time information. The author talks about people offering to “help” but really wanting to sell you something. Sorry, Andrew, but you have fallen into the same mold.If I had not already bought the book, I would probably only buy the app. As it is I will probably use the book and download a different app.I will update my review on how useful the book actually is after our return from Hawaii. As for now, I do find the writer to be humorous.Great trip planning for Oahu. I downloaded samples of a lot of Oahu books and I just liked the vibe of this one. It seems more honest than the rest (in terms of criticizing tourist traps and telling you tricks). I am a big Rick Steves Europe fan and this book had a similar style. We bought this one and downloaded some of the other (Lonely Planet, etc) and we liked this best and planned our trip around its ideas. PS We loved the Polynesian Cultural Center - we ended up making the hour drive twice. Waikiki sucks (crowded and chain restaurants only). The zoo is not good. Lanakai Beach was awesome.
