JOCKO WILLINK was a Navy SEAL for 20 years, rising through the ranks to become the commander of Task Unit Bruiser―the most decorated Special Operations Unit of the Iraq War. After retiring, Jocko continued on the disciplined path of success, co-founding Echelon Front, a multi-million dollar leadership and management consulting company, writing the #1 New York Times bestseller Extreme Ownership, the children's book Way of the Warrior Kid, and creating one of the top-ranking podcasts, JOCKO PODCAST.

The instant New York Times bestseller!

FIND YOUR WILL, FIND YOUR DISCIPLINE--AND YOU WILL FIND YOUR FREEDOM

Jocko Willink's methods for success were born in the SEAL Teams, where he spent most of his adult life, enlisting after high school and rising through the ranks to become the commander of the most highly decorated special operations unit of the war in Iraq. In Discipline Equals Freedom, the #1 New York Times bestselling coauthor of Extreme Ownership describes how he lives that mantra: the mental and physical disciplines he imposes on himself in order to achieve freedom in all aspects of life. Many books offer advice on how to overcome obstacles and reach your goals―but that advice often misses the most critical ingredient: discipline. Without discipline, there will be no real progress. Discipline Equals Freedom covers it all, including strategies and tactics for conquering weakness, procrastination, and fear, and specific physical training presented in workouts for beginner, intermediate, and advanced athletes, and even the best sleep habits and food intake recommended to optimize performance.

Within these pages discover the keys to becoming stronger, smarter, faster, and healthier. There is only one way to achieve true freedom: The Way of Discipline. Read this book and find The Way.

It's not the book you expect, but it's a book that you need. It's not a field manual, and wasn't exactly what I expected. But I finished it within 2 days and I love it.The first half, "Thoughts" felt a little silly, especially if you are already familiar with Jocko's message and/or the Podcast. Jocko goes through all the Jocko-isms (getting after it, discipline, dealing with difficult circumstances, etc...). But I later felt that it is a necessary part of the book.It gets better in the second half, where Jocko goes into principles of sleeping, training, fueling the body, etc. He sheds more light on how his sleeping schedule looks like, and his recommendations on which martial arts to train and why are spot on (I've been in the martial arts for many years: striking, grappling, weapons, modern, and traditional, and I agree with his recommendations.) Even though I know most of these things, I'd pay the small price of the book just to hear it from someone else with experience and pedigree like Jocko. In the appendix are the workouts: for beginners, intermediate, and advanced levels. It's always good to see someone else's workout programming. There are endless ways to program for physical training, and you can learn something from anyone who has seen good results on a program. All said and done, the book doesn't provide any special methods or training secrets. Just good principles to live by.This is fitting, because the secret is that there are no secrets.Get you some! Exactly what it says it is, a field manual. If I had to describe it I would call it the ultimate excuse killer. Jocko Willink instructs you how to navigate the mine field of excuses you'll encounter while you're getting after it, whatever "it" may be. From procrastination to injury, from why, where, when, to your own weakness. Jock lays out straight forward truths to act upon if you want to walk your own disciplined path. I believe anyone who is striving to add more discipline to their life in any area for any reason will find this book inspiring and helpful if they are willing to be honest with themselves.Read it through with the audio book so that later when you crack it open you'll read it in your head in The Jocko Willink voice. What are you waiting for, get the book, and get after it.Kindle version looks absolutely terrible The content is great but it's borderline unreadable on Kindle due to the terrible formatting and unchangeable colors. I hope future revisions eliminate the unnecessary black background. It might look cool on paper but it's distracting and hideous in electronic form.

Most people never tap into 10% of their potential for memory.

In this book, you're about to learn:

How the World's Top Memory Experts Concentrate and Remember Any Information at Will, and How You Can Too

Do you ever feel like you're too busy, too stressed or just too distracted to concentrate and get work done?

In Unlimited Memory, you'll learn how the world's best memory masters get themselves to concentrate at will, anytime they want. When you can easily focus and concentrate on the task at hand, and store and recall useful information, you can easily double your productivity and eliminate wasted time, stress and mistakes at work.

In this book, you'll find all the tools, strategies and techniques you need to improve your memory.

Here’s just a taste of the memory methods you'll learn in this book:

  • The 3 bad habits that keep you from easily remembering important information

  • How a simple pattern of thinking can stop you from imprinting and remembering key facts, figures and ideas, and how to break this old pattern so you’ll never again be known as someone with a “bad memory”

  • How to master your attention so you can focus and concentrate longer, even during challenging or stressful situations

  • How to use your car to remember anything you want (like long lists or information you need to remember for your studies or personal life) without writing anything down

  • Simple methods that allow you to nail down tough information or complex concepts quickly and easily

  • How to combine your long-term memory (things you already know and will never forget) and short-term memory (information you want to remember right now) to create instant recall for tests, presentations and important projects

  • The simple, invisible mental technique for remembering names without social awkwardness or anxiety

  • How using your imagination to bring boring information to life can help you dramatically improve your attention span and recall

  • An incredible strategy for remembering numbers (the same system Kevin used to remember Pi to 10,000 digits and beat the world memory record by 14 minutes)

  • How to use a mental map to lock in and connect hundreds or even thousands of ideas in your long-term memory (this method will allow you to become a leading expert in your field faster than you ever dreamed possible)

If you're ready to harness the incredible power of your mind to remember more in less time, this book is for you.

Wonderful resource. As a college student I found this to be an invaluable resource. I have spent so many hours reading things, hearing things, only to forget them and have to study them all again come test time, and then forget them again after the class is over. Many college students seem shockingly ok with forgetting half of what they spent so much money to learn, I for one spent the money to know and remember what I have been taught. These techniques are worth a bar of gold.Affixing New Knowledge With Old Knowledge The first few chapters are motivational, getting past one’s inhibitions and self-enforced limitations. In part 2 Horsley goes into a different method in each chapter. Generally, several methods use associating what a person wants to remember with things they know well, a way of affixing new knowledge with established knowledge. In chapter 6, Use your car to remember, a list of items, in this case foods that are good for your mind, is associated with parts of your car. Recalling it now, you imagine putting a tomato in the grill, an orange on the roof, blueberries on your seat, dried fruit on the dash, seeds and nuts in the back seat, an egg in the passenger seat, fish under the hood, etc. Makes for a humorous picture, imagining it, and this is one of Horsley’s major points: using imagination and humorous associations help us to remember. Another method, similar in locating words in locations, is using your own body. Another method, one that has potential for a great many associations, is imagining the items to remember on a journey, whether it be a short journey around your house, or a long journey across the nation. Horsley likes to use lists of qualities from motivational books for several exercises. There are particular methods for remembering numbers, associating them with letters, then making words of those letters; remembering names of people by associating them with actions or prominent characteristics. In closing the author writes about incorporating these methods with self-discipline and reviewing for memory reinforcement. This is not a book I want my money back. I was promised a book. This is not a book. It's a popular science article only the page count has been ridiculously inflated by listing memorisation lists in single column, inserting section breaks after every two to four coherent sentences and filling in motivational blah blah borrowed from elsewhere. The real content of the book can be summarised as follows: use peg words, a visual map of a well know place like your body, car or route to work to hold information you want to memorise. There. Now you don't have to read this piece of pulp. Surely there must be something better written about this fascinating topic?
