Best anxiety book ever Thanks to Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.I didn't think there could be a self help book better than The Life Changing Magic of not giving a F.... but I believe Calm the F Down will be even more life changing for me. As I've been reading this book I've been putting the principles into practice and it has literally been life changing. I am a very anxious/stressed out person that should buy stock in ostriching (read the book to find out what I'm talking about), and this book gave me an easy way to deal with this. Not to mention Sarah does a fantastic job at writing thoroughly entertaining and engaging self help with laugh out loud humor sprinkled into the mix.If you or someone you know has issues with anxiety, stress, and/or freaking out then this is the holy grail of books. I'd go as far as to say this should be taught in high school and/or college. If you are still reading this review then you should probably just buy the book already.Entertaining But Not Going to Change Your Life Self-help books start at a severe deficit in that they aren't very helpful. Yet the fact that we think there's a book out there that can cure our generalized anxiety, or help us shed those last 10 pounds for good, or make us rich, keeps the genre going (never mind that if books could save us from ourselves, this country wouldn't be the fat, nervous, broke mess that it is). But if you have to read a self-help book, you could do worse.The author has a very sarcastic sense of humor I relate to. Not everyone will respond to her style, but I found this book pretty amusing. Sarah Knight admits her entire message boils down to the serenity prayer, but she delivers it in an entertaining fashion. I will say I tried to apply the principles from this book to my habit of worrying about everything, and it does work. A little. When you can remember to go through the steps in the midst of a panic. Which is almost never. And for things you have the wherewithal to be able to prioritize and deal with. Which is virtually nothing. But, hey, this book tried. B- for effort.

The PG Woodhouse syndrome David has become the PG Woodhouse of his era. Unfortunately, this includes publishing SOME reruns. Great writing​ as always and some tales are new. But you will be frustrated when you recognize you read that story before. I LOVE David but he needs to get out more.Great read for David Sedaris fans If you've read all of David Sedaris' books, attended one or more of of his performances, followed him on NPR or have read his magazine articles, you'll enjoy this book. I loved looking back on his younger years and early observations--and especially loved seeing his list of dreams and goals, and how many of them came to fruition. He also gave us a deeper view into his mom's alcohol addiction and his sister Tiffany's mental illness. I'd recommend this specifically to his fans and followers and look forward to reading his next 15+ years of diaries. I rated it 5 stars because I couldn't put it down and laughed a lot in the middle of the night. He just never disappoints.Enjoyable on so many levels Not only funny, but insightful, because I really find David's history and life and how he became who he is today to be fascinating. To say that I'm a fan of David Sedaris is to understate my devotion, because I literally cannot get enough of his work. I first saw David in person in a small bookstore, in Berkeley, before he made it big, and have delighted in seeing his success since. Whether reading or listening, I do it over and over. So true to form, I first bought this book, then downloaded it as an audio. I listened to it while driving 800 miles recently on a grim journey, and it was just the thing to lighten a tough time. David's voice is half the fun, but it's just as fun to read it in written form. I can't wait for the next issue, 2003-2017.

A fascinating look under the hood of the video game industry Jason Schreier has written a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the modern video game industry, using some of the biggest hit games (and one epic cancellation) as case studies. If you're a gamer, you'll be enthralled by the backstory of Blizzard's Diablo 3, Bungie's Destiny, Dragon Age 3, and The Witcher 3 (what is it with all the 3s?) to name just a few. The story documents both triumph and tragedy in equal measure, and is drawn from interviews with as many of the participants as were willing to go on the record (some refused to do so). The book culminates with the story of Star Wars 1313, one of the great "never was" game projects which was canceled before ever seeing the light of day. Each chapter contains enough detail to inform and educate, but is not so long that it ever outstays its welcome by growing tedious. As an avid gamer myself, I found that the book enhanced my appreciation for each of the games that was covered (I play about half of them). Recommended for gamers and those who are interested in video games.I REALLY hope there's a followup! I gotta say, I'm a sucker when I comes to a biography or documentary. ESPECIALLY one that delves into the world of game creation. I'm a avid read of Kotaku, so when this gem popped up in the "about me" at the end of a Jason Schreier article, I knew I had to check it out! I will say that I'm not typically as interested in the "AAA" game development process as I am an indie game, but these chapters give enough information that I found reading those almost as interesting. But that's me,...nothing to do with Jason's writing style. That beings said, my two favorite chapters were "Stardew Valley" and "Shovel Knight". I'll admit, Stardew Valley really isn't my style of game (I tried it once), but the story behind it was amazing! Also, Shovel Knight I've never actually played, but this book made me get the game, so it does a really good job there! Each chapter tells a different story of the "creation" of a particular game. It doesn't go into all the details about what programs are used of where the workers got start in the industry (does tell backstories of a few during different chapters, but no particulars). It basically starts from where the game idea began and how it unfolded,...for better or worse.I can only hope that Jason Schreier continues with more of this in the future. I'd love to hear about Five Nights at Freddy's, Ori and the Blind Forest, and Inside!Final Verdict: If you enjoyed Indie Game: The Movie, this is a must read! If you enjoy reading anything about the creative process of video games, this is a must read! You know what, just read it! You won't be disappointed!interesting but not compelling most of the stories seem the same. a group is super pumped about an exciting unprecedented game idea. it takes longer than expected. they crunch. they take even longer. they finish.no real details of personl drama to help you connect. Stardew Valley came closest, but that was a one man show.
